Imaginative and flexible
Martina Gebauer was born in 1965 in Alzenau. In 1994 she moved to Hamburg. Her stage name is MG Lucas.
Already as a child, she painted colourful pictures from fairy tales and dreamed of creating them herself. Since kindergarten, her dream was to become an illustrator for Walt Disney.
Gebauer learned the craft of porcelain painting and aspired to study as a children's book illustrator. However, for family reasons, she refused to study and worked after completing her education in the retail trade. She practiced painting only as a hobby. But brushes and colours accompanied her during her whole life.
"My way of expressing myself in art is to try to look behind the mirrors like Alice in Wonderland. I don't paint what I see, I paint what's behind it," says MG Lucas about her paintings.
With particular attention to detail, her works always show an action, a rhythm or an invitation to discovery. In the fantasy paintings, figures that are not recognizable at the first glance, are agitated. The content of the symbols has been modified to find a second one behind the first statement.
