Paul Klee, born on December 18, 1879, in Münchenbuchsee, is considered one of the most significant visual artists of the Classical Modernism of the 20th century. His diverse work spans from Expressionism and Cubism to Surrealism. He was also closely associated with the "Blue Rider" group.

In 1914, Klee traveled to Tunis with August Macke and Louis Moilliet. He also met Ferdinand Hodler there. Together with his friend, the painter Wassily Kandinsky, Klee taught at the BAUHAUS in Weimar from 1920 and later in Dessau. From 1931, he was a professor at the Düsseldorf Art Academy.

After the rise of the Nazis, he was dismissed and returned to Bern, where, despite the increasing burden of a serious illness, he created an extensive late work from 1934 onward.

Paul Klee developed a distinctive visual language characterized by playful lightness, fine lines, and intense color schemes. He was inspired by music, poetry, and nature, experimenting with various techniques to imbue his works with a unique dynamism. His engagement with color theory greatly influenced his art—he viewed color as an autonomous force capable of evoking a deeper emotional impact, independent of representational context.

His oeuvre includes more than 9,000 drawings and paintings, ranging from humorous, almost childlike compositions to profound, abstract visual worlds. His artistic vision was marked by a deep understanding of structure and rhythm, making him one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. To this day, his works captivate art lovers worldwide and are housed in prominent museums and collections.

Klee passed away on June 29, 1940, in Muralto.
