Paul Gauguin was born in Paris, the 7th of June 1848. When he was a little child, he lived with his parents in Lima (Peru) where his father died. His mother died shortly after, so he decided to join the Marine. Afterwards, he worked from 1871 to 1883 as a stock broker in Paris. In 1873, he married Dane Mette Sophie Gad.
Do to his passion for art, he decided to dedicate his life to painting.Due to his friendship with Pissaro, he painted impressionist artworks. After a journey to Brittany, Panama and Martinique in 1888, he went to see Van Gogh in Arles.
Gauguin painted works of Brittany and Provence. He became one of the biggest artists of modern art thanks to his colorful paintings of Tahiti. Beside artists like Cézanne, van Gogh and Munch, Gauguin contributed to redeeming Impressionism with a new expressionistic twist.
