Abstract art

Subjective art from the 20th century

Abstract art refers to the type of art that does not come from any memory nor real images. Abstract painting dissolves reality and transforms it into a dream-like scenario.

Until today, art History hasn’t be able to identify the first artist to step into the abstract world. However, the term “abstract” is often used as an academic synonym of nonrepresentational art. Where is the limit between abstraction and figuration? When does a simple shape become an abstract representation?
